Testing Hamburgers Font in a Real Web Design Project

I was working on a new boutique online store for a small artisanal food brand, and the challenge was to create a digital identity that felt warm, approachable, and visually engaging. After exploring several font options, I landed on Hamburgers—a sweet and quirky handwritten font from Script Amp. It immediately stood out with its natural flow and unique character.

The first thing I noticed about Hamburgers was how it brought a sense of personality to the design. It wasn’t just another display font; it had a human touch that made the website feel more like a personal invitation than a corporate brochure. The irregular spacing and soft curves gave it a friendly and playful vibe, which aligned perfectly with the brand’s mission to bring joy through food.

Using Hamburgers in Key Website Elements

I started by applying Hamburgers to the hero section. Placing it over a high-quality image of the brand’s signature burger, the font didn’t overpower the visuals but instead complemented them. The text read smoothly against the background, and the readability remained intact even when viewed on smaller screens.

Next, I tested it in the navigation menu. While Hamburgers worked well for headlines and call-to-action buttons, I realized it might not be the best choice for long blocks of text. So, I paired it with a clean sans serif font for body copy, ensuring the site still felt professional while maintaining its whimsical charm.

In the product sections, I used Hamburgers for short phrases like “Handcrafted,” “Locally Sourced,” and “Made with Love.” These short, impactful words benefited from the font’s expressive style, making each label feel more like a hand-written note than a standard headline.

Readability and Mobile Responsiveness

One concern I had was how Hamburgers would perform on mobile devices. Testing different screen sizes showed that the font scaled well without losing its legibility. However, I did notice that on very small buttons or tight spaces, the intricate details of the script could become less clear. To address this, I kept the font size consistent across devices and avoided using it in areas where users might need quick scanning.

For dark backgrounds, I experimented with light text colors to ensure contrast. On light backgrounds, I found that a slightly darker shade of the same color worked best. This attention to detail helped maintain the font’s visual appeal without compromising usability.

Typography Pairing and Brand Consistency

Font pairing is crucial for any web project, and Hamburgers proved to be an excellent match for a modern sans serif typeface. I chose a sleek, minimalist font for the body content to provide a strong contrast and keep the user experience smooth. This combination allowed the brand to feel both creative and trustworthy—an essential balance for an e-commerce site.

Another consideration was multilingual support. Since the brand plans to expand into international markets, I checked if Hamburgers offered characters for different languages. While the font was primarily designed for English, it had enough versatility to work with other alphabets without major issues.

I also looked into the licensing options. As this was a commercial project, I needed a font that supported use across multiple platforms and devices. The commercial license provided by Script Amp covered everything I needed, including webfont availability and file formats like WOFF and TTF.

Applying Hamburgers Beyond the Website

Beyond the main site, I used Hamburgers in social media graphics and email marketing campaigns. Its unique style added a cohesive touch across all digital channels, reinforcing the brand’s identity consistently. For instance, using it in promotional banners for new product launches created a sense of excitement and anticipation.

In the blog section, I applied Hamburgers to article titles and subheadings. The font helped break up long paragraphs and guide the reader’s eye naturally through the content. It also worked well in editorial designs, where a more artistic approach was appropriate.

For the logo design, I considered Hamburgers as a primary option. While it was tempting to use it for the main logo, I opted for a simpler version to ensure scalability and clarity at smaller sizes. Instead, I used it in secondary branding elements like taglines and promotional materials.

Overall, Hamburgers has been a valuable addition to this project. It brought warmth and character to the design while remaining functional and readable in key areas. By carefully selecting where to use it and pairing it with complementary fonts, I ensured the final result felt both polished and personable—a perfect fit for the brand’s vision.
